Meet The Founder & Fiber Artist
Michelle Shaffer, Owner
Hi everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know a little more about my background. I learned to crochet over 40 years ago in Junior High School Home Economics class. Actually, I continued making blankets and small things like scarves. Then I branched out and learned more when YouTube became popular. In 2015 I started making crocheted jewelry, which led to beaded, stamped, and wire wrapped pieces. Creating Dreamcatchers using crocheted doilies, beads, and natural elements like seashells has become another favorite. At present I am learning to knit and I enjoy acquiring new skills. Check my website often for updates.
Married since 1985 my husband and I have two children and three granddaughters. We retired in 2021 to Eastern North Carolina near the ocean with our 3 dogs and 2 cats.

Where We Are
Jacksonville, North Carolina
Jacksonville, North Carolina, proudly holds the title of 2025 All American City Winner. This prestigious recognition marks the second occasion on which Jacksonville has been honored for effectively conveying its narrative of environmental stewardship concerning the New River. Over the past three decades, the city has undertaken numerous initiatives aimed at restoring the river's health and educating the youth about environmental sustainability. Key programs include the New River Institutes, our esteemed nonprofit partner Sturgeon City, the Clean and Green initiative, the Oyster Highway, and various other impactful projects. Founded in 1752 after a devastating hurricane led to the destruction of the county seat in Johnston, Jacksonville was subsequently re-established and became the seat of Onslow County.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has maintained a significant presence in the area since 1939, with the establishment of the Marine Barracks at New River in 1941, later known as Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base. This base remains operational today and ranks among the five largest military installations in the United States. In addition to its rich history and military significance, Jacksonville is conveniently located near many of North Carolina's renowned beaches. North Topsail Beach, just about a half hour drive away, is a popular destination, while further options include Bear Island, Hammocks Beach, Emerald Isle, and Atlantic Beach, all of which are celebrated for their natural beauty. While my affinity for these locations is personal—having grown up visiting and with family ties in the area—I believe they represent some of the finest beaches in the United States. For further information about Jacksonville and Emerald Isle, you may view their official websites linked below. I consider myself fortunate to reside in this remarkable region.
